Myself and Lucy came up with a few initial ideas:
- 'People of Leeds' booklet - similar to the 'Humans of New York' project, speaking to people in Leeds, photographing them and writing a bit about their lives etc.
- A homeless people of Leeds guide - a small booklet/leaflet which contains a little fact file about a few of the homeless people in Leeds, e.g - their name, their favourite food/ drink so people know what to buy them and where they usually hang out so people can find them. The booklet will also have a photograph/ illustration of each person so they're easy to spot and people will recognise them.
Feedback from the group crit:
-Research into advertising by homeless charities
-Get in touch with shelter and ask them any questions we may have
-Include page of charities in the leaflet
-Ask them why they have chosen the specific place they have
-Research into why homeless people locate themselves in the places that they do
-Ask them where they spend most of their time on a night/ through the day
-Ask what they like to be called/ what their friends call them
-Include a map of Leeds and pin point where they are on it
-Try simplified drawings of them rather than photographs as it looks more friendly and sensitive
-Look into Julien Opie and the Blur covers they designed
-Focus on using one bright colour
-Make it visually appealing so people are more inclined to keep it and use it
-Consider taking our drawings back to them to see if they approve/ so they can keep it
-Have a friendly opening paragraph/ sentence 'How you can do your bit as a student'
