OUGD505 - Design Practice 2 - Studio Brief 02 - Product Range Distribution - Pictogram Development

After creating some initial sketches of the pictograms, I decided to start developing them within Illustrator.

I started with the male and female toilet symbols.

I wanted to work with quite thick, chunky lines for the best visibility for the elderly.

I used the arc line tool to create a curved shaped that I reflected to form an arch

A small line was used to join the two together

I then started working with diagonal lines to form the lower half

Small curves were used for the joining of the legs

Finally, vertical lines were used for the legs

The arches were adjusted slightly to allow for a better fit

Finished pictogram

The male pictogram was created by firstly duplicating the head and arms

The legs were formed again with vertical lines

And a curve to join the three

Fine details were adjusted in a macro zoom to allow for a perfect fit

The arch was narrowed after I decided it was too wide for the figure

Finished figures
