OUGD603 - Roald Dahl - Spaghetti Development

Once I had decided on an initial approach, I started looking at other elements for the packaging.

I began thinking about what sort of text would work alongside the main product name.

Using a pen tool in Illustrator, I started experimenting with different scrawl/scribble text styles;

I was quite keen on this style as it worked really well alongside the scrawl graphics, and added a fun and playful element.

I also started thinking about a secondary typeface for the product name. I knew I wanted the packaging to say 'Mrs Twit's Wormy Spaghetti' - as she made it for her husband in the book.

I began mocking up a few quick different layouts to see how the different elements could function together;

I looked at both a rectangular box shape packaging, and then potentially a circle.

The landscape rectangle was not working - it was too hard to fit all the elements together on the dimensions of the packaging.

I was having the same problem with the circular packaging - I could fit the circular scrawl on nicely, but was struggling with the other elements.
