OUGD503 - Responsive - Owlcotes - Further Development

Following my initial designs, I came across this image online which really stood out to me. I liked the way the owl's face didn't look angry - this was something I was finding hard to achieve due to the nature of the owl's eyebrows. I also liked the lines that formed the head - the softness of the curves combined with the modern and contemporary sleek look.

I also found this image which I really liked, a sketch by someone online. I was drawn to the way the owl came across in this drawing - soft, gentle and friendly. I was also drawn to the wings as I needed them to be the main aspect of the design.

I placed both images into Illustrator to get a general vibe on how I could work with these two images. I thought about basing my own design on the structure of the drawing, but with the composition of the owl head line drawing.

My first move was the change the outer line around the owl head - I needed to make the head softer to suit a primary school vibe.

After placing the head onto the drawing, I started using it as a guide to create the wings.
I used the arc line as my main tool to create the design.

I experimented with having the wings either side of the head in a flat span style. I wasn't too sure on this as it looked a bit awkward and didn't sit right.

I rearranged the left wing to 'hang down' in a way as if the owl was flying in a easterly direction. I felt this definitely worked better and left a nice area underneath for the text to fit.
