Vision, mission and values

Our vision

A world without dementia.

Our mission

Our mission is to transform the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will strive to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Our new values

Our People feel a strong connection to what we stand for and how we deliver for people affected by dementia.  It's the glue that binds us together.  However, that doesn't mean that they can never change.
As we evolve and raise our ambitions, our values need to evolve too.  New challenges require new ways of working, thinking and problem solving – while retaining what makes us a special place to work.
230 people have been involved in shaping these values. This includes all levels of employees and volunteers across Society – and people affected by dementia. Overwhelming feedback was to make them short, punchy, active and something that captures the essence of who we are. They support our new bolder brand too – fitting in to how we want to be known.

Our new values

Committed to creating a world without dementia,
We get it: we are trusted experts, informed and inspired by people affected by dementia
We are united: together we achieve more
We will do it: we demand and deliver lasting change.

Our Strategy 2017-2022

Our strategy 2017 – 2022: New Deal on Dementia

Dementia is the biggest health and care challenge we face. By 2021, over a million people will be living with the condition.
Dementia can devastate lives. For someone with the condition, as well as their family and friends, dementia means the plans you made, and the future you thought you had, will not be so.
Alzheimer’s Society’s mission is to transform the landscape of dementia forever. In our new strategy, the New Deal on Dementia, we make a commitment to be available to every person who receives a diagnosis. We want everyone affected by dementia to know that, whatever you are going through wherever you are, whoever you are, you can turn to Alzheimer’s Society for support, help and advice. Until we find a cure, we will strive to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported, accepted and able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
The strategy has three elements that will help us to achieve this, so that we can change the landscape of dementia forever.

Personal Choice Programme

Alzheimer’s Society personalisation programme is working to ensure people with dementia have choice and control over their own care and support.
The Personal Choice programme highlights the importance of personalisation and how having choice and control over your own care and support can help people with dementia to live well.
We are working towards:
  1. All people affected by dementia having personal choice and control over their health and wellbeing from diagnosis to end of life.
  2. Ensuring the legal right to self-directed support and personal wellbeing is understood and available to all people affected by dementia.
  3. Making all forms of personal budget dementia friendly.
  4. Alzheimer’s Society recognised as a global innovator and leader in personalisation and dementia.
We will do this by ensuring:
  1. We have the knowledge, drive, resources, and services to genuinely put the needs, preferences and ambitions of those we support at the heart of all that we do.
  2. Health and Social care leaders, managers and front line staff make personal budgets truly person-centred and accessible to all eligible people with dementia.
  3. People with dementia, carers and professionals work together as equals to achieve the behavioural, cultural and systemic changes needed to personalise the dementia landscape
